Dogtrap - How to Catch a Dog When You Want to Catch a Mouse

This is a story about a dog. My dog. And as most dog owners, I'd like to think that my quadrupedal creature is the smartest one on the planet (which he probably is, mind you) but there are moments of his shiny glory when he makes me doubt his brilliance.
In order to develop the plot of this story, I have to introduce another animal, who's also mammalian and just as cute but is more on the rodent side - a mouse. Which one day appeared in my room. I'm not particularly squeamish, I like all animals, even mice, so I wasn't freaked out when it ran across the room. I was more upset because I knew there wasn't a way to capture it and set it free. But it had to be captured, I couldn't live with a mouse too, one pet was more than enough. So in a matter of minutes, the mission Catch the Mouse was in full swing.
Catching a mouse is easy. You buy a tube of mouse glue, take a piece of cardboard, cover it with glue and place a big chunky piece of cheese in the middle of that glue. Then you put the lethal cheese plate on the floor where you last saw the intruder and you wait. Simple. And that's exactly what I did.
After I strategically placed the glue mouse trap, I went to the living room and turned on the TV. A few minutes later, right on schedule, I heard some noises coming from my room. Some very loud noises. It had to be some mouse to be making all that ruckus. The closer I got to the room, the more it sounded like growling. I saw the door wasn't closed so I slowly pushed it wide open and lo and behold, there he was. The dog. My dog. My genius dog. Glued to the frigging cardboard, which should have catch the sneaky mouse, who was probably hiding under my bed laughing at the poor sucker. The trap was glued to his muzzle and all the way up to his forehead. As he wanted to take it off with his front left paw, he glued that to the cardboard and his face too. Boy, was he mad. He was growling and shaking his head ready to kill the stupid cardboard, having no clue whatsoever that the cardboard will be the one to fuck HIM up in the end.
First, I had to calm the raging ball of glue and fur down a bit and then I took a pair of scissors and cut as much of his hair off as possible, but OF COURSE he successfully glued his muzzle to the cardboard. Let me remind you, that glue is designed not to let go. Ever. And it worked perfectly. I thought about calling the glue company and getting my dog an endorsement deal. They'd just had to put a headband with some mouse ears on him, a tube of glue in front of him and they'd have their commercial: "Mouse glue. Guaranteed to catch any mouse, no matter how small or big, smart or stupid."
After minutes of gently trying to remove the last piece of cardboard unsuccessfully, I grabbed the cardboard, looked into his beautiful big brown bewildered eyes and said: "I'm sorry..." And pulled. He still doesn't have any hair in that spot, but he still LOVES cheese. Talk about a dedicated cheese aficionado.

P.S.: Concerning the first photo, you have to excuse him his grammatical error. After all, he is a dog. And he did say that he loves you.

Don't forget to like, share and/or follow if you have a dog and you think he or she's smarter than mine and/or if you find my ball of fur adorable despite his shortcomings. There are new posts coming up every Monday, Wednesday and Friday so see you again this Friday!

  4. ooops!!! I don't own a pet, don't really like them much, but wouldn't it be interesting if just for a split second a dog could talk so that you knew what he was really thinking. You know when someone bumps in to you and they say 'sorry', and you say 'that's okay', but really it's not okay and your peeved for a good 5 minutes (that might just be me?); well I think even though your doggie probably gives you much love, it's likely that he's still peeved, he just can't tell you!

  11. hahaha crazy. I had that glue trap too, and since we don't have a dog EVERYBODY we invited home was stepping in the glue. We were warning them but it didn't matter. The mice was jumping and avoiding it (....) but not humans with their giant foots. Anyway poor adorable dog =P

  17. Haha, poor dog! He is cute though.

We used to get mice in our old house all the time, we used to catch them on the glue traps and my housemate would then bash them to death with a brick. I am still traumatised!

  28. Hahahah that is a great story, although your dog probably wouldn't agree. We've found our family dog with his head stuck in a popcorn bag (that he got out of the garbage), stuck in an ice cream container (that he got out of the garbage)... you get the idea. But what would you do without them?

Thanks so much for taking the time to find me and comment! I'll definitely be following you via Bloglovin!
