Pardon His Spanish

Oscar de la Renta once said in an interview: "To be well-dressed, you must be well naked." Although his words could be understood as if he were trying to say that you only can look good in clothes if you have a modelesque body, that's not the case.
What the Dominican Republic born designer wanted to say was that you have to be comfortable in your own skin, that's all. No amount of clothes, designer or not, can help disguise one's self-esteem deprivation. Unfortunately, an overflowing ego can't be masked by clothes either and the latter definitely bothers me more than the former, but that goes beyond the scope of this ponder session.
Whether you're "well naked" or not, you can't hold de la Renta's choice of words against him because his mother tongue isn't English, it's Spanish. But who am I to say what he actually had in mind, my mother language isn't English either. Nor is it Spanish. So who knows, maybe what he wanted to say was: "I like soup."

    1. I actually had to check because I had no idea.:) It turns out it was a military barrack. Now it's just falling apart, an abandoned building full of graffiti and crap... Pretty cool, actually.:)

  16. I love the setting you have gone for here -so original. You are so witty with what you write! I'm not sure I agree 100% with the quote - it's the clothes that give me my self confidence and self esteem, because they hide a multitude of self-proclaimed imperfections; when I take my clothes off I feel quite miserable! But like you say he may not have meant it like that.... ha ha

  20. I agree with your interpretation of his quote---at first, I was thinking that he was saying that you was talking about the perfect naked body as well, but now I think I understand. Btw, I love your slouchy boyfriend jeans; so cool!

  32. Ha ha, I think you probably got what he meant the first time - but then again, maybe you're right; he could have intended to tell the world about his passion for soup ;) I love this pair of pants on you, the cut is so different and it suits you really well!
