Oscar de la Renta once said in an interview: "To be well-dressed, you must be well naked." Although his words could be understood as if he were trying to say that you only can look good in clothes if you have a modelesque body, that's not the case.
What the Dominican Republic born designer wanted to say was that you have to be comfortable in your own skin, that's all. No amount of clothes, designer or not, can help disguise one's self-esteem deprivation. Unfortunately, an overflowing ego can't be masked by clothes either and the latter definitely bothers me more than the former, but that goes beyond the scope of this ponder session.
Whether you're "well naked" or not, you can't hold de la Renta's choice of words against him because his mother tongue isn't English, it's Spanish. But who am I to say what he actually had in mind, my mother language isn't English either. Nor is it Spanish. So who knows, maybe what he wanted to say was: "I like soup."
