Rules Equal Boredom

I'm pretty sure you all know who Simon Cowell is. In case you don't, he's a talent scout, TV producer, entrepreneur, TV personality and according to TV Guide the 10th most nastiest villain of all times - among other things. I guess you could perceive him as a villain judging by his comments on The Idol and X-Factor, but hey, that's television - and a damn good one. Even Oprah likes him and describes his evil supper power as 'transforming honesty into an art-form'. Yes, he is brutally honest and yes, his attitude is pure magic when it comes to making reality shows, but that's not the (only) reason I like him, there are also two others.
The first one is the fact that he lost all of his fortune and had to sell his Porsche, penthouse apartment and all of his designer clothes and move in with his parents when he was 30. He stayed there for about 2 years so he could work his way up again and repay his debt. It might seem mean that I like this fact about him, but I don't like it because he fell, but because he has risen to even greater heights than before and no one can say that this amount of tenacity and perseverance isn't inspiring.
I came across the other reason due to which I have a soft spot for Mr. Cowell when I was watching his interview with Oprah. In it Oprah asked him if he'd ever have kids and Simon replied: "If they could be born at the age of 5." Now tell me that is not an answer of a sensible man? I'm sure he'll find out just how sensible that would be very soon, since he's expecting his first son in February. But enough of this baby BS, here's a list of other Simon Cowell quotes:
  • I like people to have an opinion - black, white, whatever. I can't bare anything in between, I can't stand grey.
  • I never had a clue as to what I was gonna do other than I promised myself that whatever I did do I was gonna have fun.
  • I had to teach myself. I didn't learn anything from school.
  • My father taught me the basics which are you gotta work hard and you gotta be patient.
  • Enjoy the process of getting there because I promise you it's a lot more fun than being there.
  • Talk 10 % of the time, listen 90 % of the time, probably the best advice.
  • I don't guess, I'm confident about what I do.
  • Every single negative can lead to a positive, any negative situation. Don't get to down by it, work it out.
  • The minute Lady Gaga arrived, she created a new set of rules: Being different is good. Embrace it.
  • I was never given any hand-outs. I started at the bottom and was very good at finding people who knew more than me and learning from them.
  • I hated school, but I love work.
  • When someone asks: "Does success make you into a monster?" I always say: "No, it enables you to be a monster.
  • You know what the secret of weight loss is? Don't eat much.
  • Rules equal boredom and I don't like that.
  • If I went to a psychiatrist, it would be a long session.
  • What other people think of me is none of my business.
  • I'm tempted to ask if you sang that the night before your wife left you.
  • That song was like going to a zoo or something. I mean the noises were beyond anything I have ever ever heard.
  • I don't know what cats being squashed sound like in Lithuania, but I now have a pretty good idea.
  • If you had lived 2,000 years ago and sung like that, I think they would have stoned you.
  • Do you have a singing teacher? Get a lawyer and sue her.
  • You have a personality of a handle.

  1. I love that he went big, hit bottom, and went to the top AGAIN. What an inspiration. I have a new found respect for him, for sure.

  2. I love the effect of these photos :)

  3. I like Simon. And I bet he gives less than zero fucks that so many people dislike him. In fact, I think it encourages him :-)

  4. I can just hear him saying every single one of those quotes. I watched an interview with him on Piers Morgan (not sure if you know who he is - British journalist turned American TV personality) and I was so inspired. You really can't knock his work ethic or say he was born with a sliver spoon in his mouth. As much as I love not working for other people, I'd love to have the opportunity to work under him - just to learn a different way of business. Great quotes and great photography!

    1. That's exactly what I said! To be able to meet him and work for him, that would be a tremendous learning experience... I don't think he's a diva boss, he's tough, but he's also fair. I think. But what do I know really.:D

  5. whether you like him or not is now irrelevant isn't it? he is just that force. i think his relationship with his harem is hilarious and not many men could pull that off - not even men richer than him so he much be charming!!

  6. I really love that sweater...mint is one of my favorite colors ever! Sweaters can be very grandma-ish, but you managed to make it sexy, cool, edgy! Kudos to you :)

  7. I'm not a fan of Mr Cowell, I think he's mean .. but then again, I suppose people set themselves up when they can't sing and go on American Idol.

  8. Can I start by saying how amazing that view is! Gahhh! Hashtag, take me there lol! I like Simon. His honesty is authentic and it comes from a good place, though his wording gets tangled up in humor and doesn't come across right, it's coming from a sincere place. Now if you want to met a true douche bag, try the Australian try hard version of Kyle Sandilands. He tries way too hard to be Simon Cowell but fails miserably. It's just arrogance and fame hoeing.

  9. Ha I have seen his face in a few youtube videos but didn't know anything about him... I think I like him too now ;)

  10. Haha these are great! Simon Cowell really does have some great quips - I love hearing his snarky comments and brutal honesty. No one else can put it quite like him.
On a sartorial note, I may have to copy this outfit head to toe. I know I have those same shoes, now to find a thick knit, mint sweater!

  11. That's so interesting. Last year I read biographies by Cheryl Cole and Sharon Osbourne which both referred a lot to Simon Cowell. I learned a lot from that about him.

  12. I always love your photography! YOU have a great style, nice sweater
I posted a new article, I'd love to know your opinion
would you like to pass from my blog?

  13. I just don't like him at all, or his ugly fashion sense...well, actually, he doesn't have one. but yes, I like his deadpan and dry sense of humour and straightforward bitchiness. I know of a young gay man who really sounds like he's copying him, but he just looks and sounds like a second-rate trying hard stupid copycat who acts like he's the best but hasn't proven or done anything yet to warrant the title of being the best. Simon Cowell's words do cut like a knife to those he criticizes in his shows, but let's face it, majority of them deserves it.

    1. See, the majority deserves it, even you said it.:D I think and hope he doesn't act like that in real life, that attitude works on tv because it makes people watch the show, not in real life. But I've never seen him criticize someone who's just ok, in that case he just says he's bored. But if you don't have friends or family who'd tell you 'Look, man, you really shouldn't apply for a televised singing competition, because your voice really isn't that brilliant,' and then you come on the show and you SUCK, of course he's gonna give it to you - but it's not his fault, blame it on your family and friends.:)

  14. This is fabulous! Loving the images... you are an inspiration
    kisses from Miami,

  15. I love the lighting in this shoot. Gorgeous look and place too!

  16. the third photo is freakin' amazing! love love love it! though yeah, I actually love the whole set since it's the perfect location, perfect sweater (minus the collar since I can't wear those :P) and well, perfect you. when it comes to Cowell I have to say I only know the name but I don't watch any of those shows he's in. so I'm completely neutral about him.

Maikeni blogi - part of me

    1. I don't know about perfect anything but you sure know how to give a compliment.:D Thanks, babe.

  17. "Being different is good, embrace it" Love that. Great post, Peet!

  18. Beautiful pictures. Love your look on you.

Hope you had a great long weekend.

  19. Well, now Im up to date about Simon Cowell, did not know all that about him! Just thought he said mean shit haha, he's actually said some pretty good shit that makes a lot of sense! xx

  20. Ohh, pretty photos!

I've always liked Simon. Thanks for sharing le quotes Peet! He's a cool dude!

  21. Simon is the best. And I don't think people really hate him. They LOVE to HATE him, it's different, right? Great quotes!

    1. That is different and I'm sure you're right - he's just that cool.:)

  22. Love your writing and the pictures are so cool!

  23. I love this. I think Simon Cowell is villainized by the media a lot, and for a good reason. Brutal honesty tends to rub people the wrong way. But he is a human, and he has a past. He also knows what he's doing. He makes good TV and he knows it, so he just does him. If he makes money for being brutally honest, sign me up. It sounds like a pretty easy job.
