Yesterday, I got a text from +447538289940 at 5:19 a.m. saying: "Congratulations! Your mobile number was selected as a winner of £2,500,000.00 on UK Mobile Lottery with Draw number 161013. Email email@example.com for claims." Even though it was way too early for my brain to function properly, I knew it was a scam.
When I finally wrestled my way from under the blankets, I went online and googled UK Mobile Lottery and the first hit was this which solidified my previous believe beyond any doubt. Duh. If anything, life has taught me that when something seem too good to be true, it's not just not true but is the exact diametric opposite of what your brain is so eager to label as truth (which in this case means that I'm not by any standard rich but poor as fuck).
One of Timothy Zahn's quotes comes to mind: Luck is merely an illusion, trusted by the ignorant and chased by the foolish. Keep that in mind, people. When you get a text saying that you've won the lottery of a country you don't even live in and otherwise.
