Don't Follow Me on Instagram

Let me just say straight off the bat that there's a pretty good reason for the title and it's not because I'm mean and I don't like you because I do, since you're obviously cool/kind/curious/thoughtful/bored enough to read this. The real and only reason I don't want you to follow me on Instagram is that I'm not on Instagram. And the reason for that could be summed up by some clever words by Daniel Craig: "I am bloody not on Facebook. And I'm not on Twitter either . . . 'Woke up this morning, had an egg.' What relevance is that to anyone? Social networking? Just call each other up and go to the pub and have a drink." And that's exactly how I feel about all of the social networks.
Yes, I have a Twitter account but I got it because people kept saying I have to network and promote my blog and bla bla bla. It fucking sucks that you have to literally rape people with your mindless bullshit for them to notice your work but that is in fact the reality of things. Most often though individuals force down other people's throats a never-ending torrent of (nonsensical) information about themselves just to promote themselves, not even their work (because there is none to back up all the noise), so no wonder substance and quality are becoming less and less important, what matters is the exterior and the quantity of someone's trifles a. k. a. updates. Well, honestly . . . It fucking sickens me. And there are days when I sit in front of my computer saying to myself: "Come on, dude, think of something. Tweet something. Anything. You HAVE to." And that's why most of the time I tweet quotes and jokes because in my world 'Just got a new manicure.' doesn't cut it. And again, WHO THE FUCK CARES?! But . . .
But yesterday something the most incredibly awesome and wonderfully amazing happened — my dog finally had his eye surgery. I was with him at the clinic from 9 a. m. till 5:00 p. m. and I took a bunch of pictures and sent them to my boyfriend because he was back home worried as fuck. And I thought to myself: "If I had an Instagram account I'd fucking instagram the shit out of all of this." Why? Because I know there are a few people out there that are genuinely worried and thus interested in the well-being of my  fur fart-ball. But honestly, I wouldn't instagram shit. I was too nervous and anxious for that. I never understand those people who tweet 'OMG!! I just burned my face w/ a flat iron. OUCH!! Sad emoji' with a picture of themselves still with the iron in hand. Then why don't you put the phone down, you stupid troll, and get some ice on that burn instead of tweeting about it??
So even though I wouldn't and didn't instagram or tweet anything about the surgery yesterday, I will post some pictures today and I'll post them for two reasons:
      a) I feel like Rocky today. I feel like I'm on the top of those stairs and I'm jumping and screaming (more like squealing) with joy and Eye of the Tiger is playing in the background. After one month and two weeks of bumping into walls and moping around and not wanting to walk, eat or live (surprisingly he did want to drink, the adopted apple really doesn't fall far from the tree), he finally sees. It's crazy. The dog sees. I now have a seeing dog again.
And b) You have to see pictures of him stoned.
But before I dive into the phone pictures of the dog, I probably should explain the other animal in the post — the snail. When I took the dog out yesterday, before we left for the clinic, I noticed a billion tiny snails climbing up my building's wall and since you know I have a soft spot for snails, I had to run back to the apartment and grab my camera and take a few shots. But now, without further ado, ladies and gentlemen, step right up and see some pictures of the incredible seeing dog. The dog, the myth, the legend — Leos.

Don't forget to share and follow FPS via Twitter, Bloglovin and/or Google+ to get the latest updates. But most importantly, do come by again sometimes — posting days are Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, so hopefully see you then!

  1. Actually, I had a bagel. Just thought I should clear that up bloodly quickly before you assumed anything. :) We don't have Twitter or Facebook or Instagram. It doesn't make much of a difference except for when people ask to follow us on those and we can't...

  5. I'm on Facebook mainly because 90% of my dearest friends and family are thousands of miles away from me. That's how we keep in touch, though not constantly, but most accessibly, when we really have to. I love the fact that all my loved ones are in one place where I can easily reach out. Yesterday, Twitter emailed me that it's my 2nd anniversary. I didn't even know that coz I don't go on it. 99% of my posts there are linked to my blog page. It's very useful though for traffic and train updates. Really useful coz it's real time, and in London we have lots of suspensions, so it really helps to keep track when you go from place to place. My Instagram is for friends and loved ones again who mostly abandoned Facebook because they're just into posting photos--and most of them send it directly to me. Meaning, I'm the only one who can see it. It's not for the whole world to see. Instagram is just a medium to share the photos. Self-promotion is very difficult for me to do, but I have for some plans in the future that involves writing. But I feel uneasy about it. So social media have its pros and cons but I'd like to think that it's got more pros. On a more important note, I'm very pleased for Leos! And I love his highlights :D

    1. You have to work with the pros and around the cons, I guess. But that's with everything in life so I don't know why I'm complaining, I should just go with the flow. But I can't seem to do it, it feels really forced to me. I can't fake it apparently... But the highlights are the bomb, I know.:D

  6. Apologies in advance for this rant: I'm not on Instagram of Facepalm either, and detest what I recollect and have read are Facefarts high-handed, gratuitous, arbitrary censorship, sex discrimination, data-mining, claims they own user content regardless of the authors' intents, their refusal to allow users to delete their accounts, and what seems to me to be encouragement of the kind of insipidity that dominates typical pseudo-discourse there. THANK YOU for not asking me to follow anything on Instagram or Facebutt. As for Twitter, my account was suspended in error and then reinstated without comment. I am probably not going to do #FFs (Follow Friday's) on Twitter tomorrow figuring I'll allow some time for false-flaggers and/or errant algorithms to get sorted out (hopefully) and perhaps to unfollow some folks who don't follow me.
Hooray for Sir Fartsalot Leos getting his vision back and the super-cool blue hair highlights too! I'm looking forward with anticipation to reading about all the human foibles your adorable fart ball observes and writes about n the future. I love the adorable posing he did for your photos.

  7. Aww - what a trooper - good ol' Mr Fartz is back!
I don't really use Twitter at all, but I hate it when tweets are read out and there's redundant hashtags - "Just burned my face with my straighteners #Burns #OUch"... WTF!!? who else is tweeting about burns and ouch!? Yo people stoopid ;-)

  10. oh my gosh, that has to be your best post ever! :D (I think I say this sentence very often to you but who cares, right) anyway, I'm so happy Leos is seeing again! and those photos of him are brilliant, like a very awesome comic or something. by the way, my parents' dog Jenny has so much more energy after the surgery (she had tumours in her ear and hanging on her leg; she's deaf too but that doesn't bother her). huh, I'm happy for both of them, Leos and Jenny!
now, when it comes to all those accounts then my blog has only the Bloglovin' thingy and I myself have a FB but I'm not the most active person there and it's not that important for me anyway. gosh and what you wrote about Instagram was so true!! :D honestly, all those sick selfies just make me laugh :D poor people who doesn't have anything else to do. by the way, I haven't even activated my phone's internet settings so yeah :D enjoy the weekend, Petra, and give Leos a huge kiss from me! (if he wants it of course, haha :D)

    1. You know what, if I'm honest, I check out Rihanna's Instagram too, I just like looking at that woman.:) But other than that, sorry, people have to do a lot more than taking a picture of themselves with their phone to intrigue me . . . Pinterest is cool though, lots of inspiration there!

  13. Hi Peet, you are a spokesperson for all of us who are fed up with those mindless self-promoting social websites where people think that what they ate for breakfast is seriously important and going to change the world in some way. I am with you 100% percent, I just don't get it. Twitter or Instagram or FB. When there was the earthquake in LA, people were tweeting, 'wow there was just an earthquake', when they should have been checking up on the people around them to see if everyone was okay and unhurt. But social media has really magnified human self absorption. On the very UP side, Yay for your dog, I am so happy to hear that he is well and all seeing all knowing again. I am glad to know the surgery went on successfully, it brought a huge smile to my day! Have a great start to the weekend hun!
